Governor Wada disclosed this at the weekend during the foundation laying ceremony of the permanent site of the Kogi State University Teaching Hospital, with a promise to ensure its timely completion.
The first phase of the construction he said, would cost over N1.7 billion up to roofing stage with the internal finishing of ground floor and technical building, while another N1.7 billion had been earmarked for furnishing and equipment.
The 250-bed teaching hospital, Captain Wada explained was based on his administration’s desire to better the lives of the people through better health and other key areas necessary for good living and development as encapsulated in his administration’s transformation agenda.
The hospital, which is a two-floor building, he disclosed, would comprise major clinical areas of medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, including dentistry, pathology, sub specialty areas, bulk store and administration.
The governor disclosed that the teaching hospital when completed would be a premier referral and research hospital with the latest cutting edge technology, assuring of the political will that would make for seamless migration of medical students.
Maintaining that the institution would help in providing the manpower for health institutions in the state, the hospital he added would compete favorably with known referral tertiary health institutions in the country.
The governor promised to look into the issues of accreditation, adequate manpower, facilities and equipment needed to make the teaching hospital meets the required standard.
In his remarks, Dr. Idris Omede, the state Commissioner for Health, said when completed the hospital would have among others, five state of the art operating theatres, intensive care unit, special baby care unit, state of the art radiology and diagnostic services as well as medical gas plant with oxygen manifold and medical gas piping to all critical areas.
