About 50,000 primary school teachers from across the 25 local
government areas of Niger State have been promoted by the state
government, with some of them enjoying double or triple promotions
depending on the length of time they have been stagnated on a particular
rank.
Already, the promotion letters are being issued to the beneficiaries with a pledge by the state government to ensure that all the recently promoted will receive their letters reflecting their new status before end of February.
Chairman, Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), Alhaji Uba Hassan Kuta, who disclosed this to newsmen in Minna, also explained that names of those promoted have been sent to the Ministry of Finance for insertion in its database for immediate payment of salaries based on their new ranks.
Promoted teachers in Paikoro have already received the financial rewards for their elevation, a project, he said, cost the state government over N13.6 million, pointing out that letters for the beneficiaries in Shiroro, Tafa, Rafi, Rijau, Bosso and Chanchaga are almost ready for collection.
The state government, the NSUBEB chairman said, has begun payment of pensions and other entitlements to primary school retiree.
He stressed that government intends to complete all the payments, including gratuities before the end of February.
"I want to assure all primary school teachers in this state that this government will not leave what is supposed to be done to another administration," Kuta said, adding that over 4,000 classrooms have been built while 450 others were renovated and all equipped with teacher's furniture and teaching aides.
