Lecturers and other non-academic staff of the Cross River State
University of Technology (CRUTECH) have embarked on indefinite strike
over non-payment of two months’ salaries as well as other outstanding
allowances.
The staff have vowed not to return to work until their demands are met.
Dr. Stephen Ochang, chairman of CRUTECH branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) accused the state government of insensitivity to the plight of workers.
He said the four industrial unions in the institution wrote to the state government demanding the payment of salaries and other outstanding allowances owed them, but that nothing was done.
He said the demands of the striking workers include release of N500 million for upgrade of facilities and increase in monthly subvention from N169 million to N250 million
